A27 westbound closed near Shoreham after lorry collision causes fuel spillage

A section of the A27 remains closed westbound near Shoreham following a crash involving two lorries and a large diesel spillage.
Emergency services were called to the scene just after 9.30am on Sunday 28 July after two heavy goods vehicles collided between the A293 at Hangleton and the A270 at Holmbush. Sussex Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, which caused significant disruption in the area.
Fire crews reported one of the lorries was leaking fuel, prompting a full road closure while firefighters made the area safe. National Highways confirmed that resurfacing work is under way due to the extent of the diesel spill. A diversion is currently in place and authorities advised motorists to avoid the area.
No serious injuries were reported and no arrests have been made. Sussex Police confirmed that the A27 westbound is likely to remain closed for some time, although one lane may reopen later in the evening once recovery and clean-up operations are completed.
