A280 Long Furlong to close for ten days for broadband works

The A280 Long Furlong will be closed in both directions for ten days in April to allow engineers to install full fibre broadband infrastructure.

The closure will run from April 13 to April 22, affecting the stretch between Long Furlong Lane and the Patching North Roundabout. The works form part of the government’s Project Gigabit programme, which aims to expand high speed broadband coverage in rural areas. CityFibre is carrying out the installation in partnership with BUKO Digital.

New traffic management technology will be used during the closure, including systems that interact with satellite navigation services and online platforms to distribute traffic more evenly across diversion routes. Access for residents, pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained, although some local people have raised concerns about increased congestion and longer journey times during the works.
