Adur housing plans could remove more than 340 households from waiting list

More than 340 Adur households with no identified housing need could be removed from the council housing waiting list under proposed changes to the area’s allocation policy.

Adur & Worthing Councils said more than 1,000 Adur households are currently waiting for a property, with more than 340 in Band D because they have no actual housing need. The proposals are intended to focus staff resources on residents most in need of support and help households move from short-term council accommodation into permanent homes more quickly.

Other proposed changes include targeted support for people living in overcrowded homes and allowing families on the Adur or Worthing housing lists to move into empty council homes in either area when they are not required by local families.

Since the start of 2024, the councils said more than 480 Adur households have been found permanent homes, while a further 53 new homes for people on the waiting list are due to be completed at Silvertide Point in Shoreham in the next few months.
