A public protection order that allows police officers to confiscate alcohol in Worthing has been renewed for a further three years.
The Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), in place since 2016, was set to expire this August. Worthing Borough Council consulted local residents and businesses, with over 96% backing the continuation of the measure. The order will now remain in force until 21 August 2028.
The PSPO grants police the authority to seize alcohol if it is believed to have caused or may lead to anti-social behaviour. Anyone who refuses to comply can be fined £50 on the spot or face prosecution, with potential fines of up to £1,000. The council stated that the extension supports efforts to keep the town centre safe and welcoming.
