Amber heat health alert issued for Worthing over Bank Holiday weekend

An amber heat health alert has been issued for Sussex and the South East as high temperatures are forecast over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Government warning is in place from Friday, May 22, until 5pm on Wednesday, May 27. The alert level was raised from yellow to amber, with officials warning that significant impacts are likely across health and social care services during the period of hot weather.

The UK Health Security Agency said the heat could lead to an increase in deaths, particularly among people aged over 65 and those with existing health conditions. Other possible impacts include rising demand on health services, overheating in care settings and homes, disruption to transport, staffing pressures and increased demand on power supplies.
