Bomb squad safely removes unexploded ordnance in Arundel

An unexploded historic ordnance discovered near the River Arun in Arundel has been safely removed by a bomb disposal team.
The device was found on Friday afternoon, prompting Sussex Police to close Queen Street and implement a safety cordon around the site. The discovery was made on the riverbank, and due to tidal conditions, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was unable to immediately deal with the item.
The ordnance was safely handled on Saturday afternoon once conditions allowed. Access to Queen Street, the High Street and the Causeway has since been fully restored, with the police confirming the area is now safe.
A Sussex Police spokesperson thanked the public for their patience and cooperation while the incident was managed. No injuries or damage were reported, and normal activity has resumed in the area.
