Burglar wrongly released from prison still on the run five months later

Police are searching for a burglar who was wrongly released from prison and remains on the run five months later.

William Wenham, 47, was serving a two-year sentence and awaiting trial for aggravated burglary when he was released in error from HMP Rochester on Tuesday, June 3. Officers say he has links to Worthing, Brighton and Peterborough and remains unlawfully at large.

Wenham was later convicted in his absence of burglary with intent to steal at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, 3 October 2025. Sussex Police renewed their appeal for information on Friday as efforts to locate him continue.

Anyone who sees Wenham is urged to dial 999 and quote Operation Equal.
