Candidates Confirmed for Adur District Council By-Election

Five candidates will stand in the Adur District Council Buckingham ward by-election on 19 June, following the death of Labour councillor Nigel Jenner.

Mr Jenner was elected in May 2024 when Labour took control of Adur District Council for the first time. He passed away in early April 2025, prompting the need for a by-election to fill the vacancy in the Buckingham ward.

The confirmed candidates for the seat are David Bamber (Britain First), Kate Davis (Labour), Ian Jones (Liberal Democrats), Mike Mendoza (Reform UK), and Leila Williams (Conservative Party). Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on the day of the election, and voters will need to present photo ID to vote.

This by-election comes amid a reduced round of local elections across Sussex, with many contests postponed due to government devolution plans. In earlier by-elections, Reform UK gained a seat on Arun District Council, while national results saw the party secure the most seats contested, making significant gains across England.
