Charity Offers Support to Vulnerable Young People

Audio Active, with a base in Worthing, is running a creative programme for vulnerable young people.

The free programme is focused on reducing the risk of offending for 11-17 year olds in Sussex and is looking for young people to take part. The main eligibility criteria is those at risk of offending, or a number of other behaviours including exclusion from education due to bullying, agression or violence, drug use or possession, carrying weapons such as knives, and displaying coercive or violent behaviour.

It is said to be the first study of its kind in the UK and Europe and is a Randomised Control Trial conducted in partnership with the Youth Endowment Fund.

Audio Active say the free programme has been a’ huge success so far, focusing on building a young person’s network of support, wellbeing and emotional regulation.'

The findings from the trial will directly inform future commissioning and service provision for children and young people at risk. They hope to prove through the national evidence base that music interventions can support young people to transform their lives.

The programme lasts 18 weeks - and all young people receive a £20 voucher on completing the programme.

After the programme ends, all young people involved are welcome to attend AudioActive’s free drop in music sessions in Brighton, Worthing or Crawley.

The deadline for referrals to the programme is the end of May. For details visit audioactive.org.uk
