Elderly woman assaulted in car theft as suspect arrested after A27 chase

An 82 year old woman was assaulted during the theft of her car in Sussex, with the suspect later arrested following a police pursuit on the A27 in Lancing

Sussex Police said the incident was reported in Blatchington Road in Hove at around 5.30pm on Monday January 12, where the woman was attacked before the offender drove away in her vehicle.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged, police confirmed. Officers launched an investigation and the stolen car was spotted several days later being driven on the A27, prompting a pursuit.

Following a minor collision, the driver was arrested in Lancing. Billy Eyre, 33, of George V Avenue in Worthing, appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court charged with robbery, driving offences and possession of a class B drug, and has been remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing at Lewes Crown Court in February.
