Fire Near Angmering Railway Line Causes Major Disruption to West Coastway Services

Rail services between Worthing, Littlehampton and Barnham were severely disrupted on Friday after a fire near the railway line in the Angmering area.
Southern said all lines were blocked and no trains were able to run between the affected stations while emergency services responded to the incident. Passengers were advised to allow at least an additional 45 minutes for their journeys and to consider alternative routes.
Southern said the fire was located near a key junction and affected routes between Worthing, Angmering, Littlehampton and Barnham. Services between Brighton and Chichester, Portsmouth and Southsea, and Southampton Central were revised or terminated short of their usual destinations. London Victoria to Littlehampton services were also altered. Major disruption was expected until approximately 3.30pm.
Later, Southern and Network Rail confirmed that a small fire next to the track had damaged a cable supplying power to electric trains. Engineers attended the site in Angmering and worked to restore services. Ticket acceptance was arranged on local buses and alternative rail routes while trains continued to operate on either side of the affected section.
