Five taken to hospital after house fire in Worthing

Five people were taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a house in Worthing during the early hours of New Year’s Day, police have confirmed. Emergency services were called to a property in Abbingdon Walk at around 04:20 GMT following reports of a blaze at the address.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters rescued a woman in her 50s from the property and provided first aid until paramedics arrived. Sussex Police said all five occupants of the house sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said the cause of the fire is being investigated jointly with the fire service but the incident is not being treated as suspicious at this time. Six fire engines were sent to the scene as part of the emergency response.
