Flooding reported in Worthing after outfall blockage

A road in Worthing has been flooded after an outfall became blocked with shingle, prompting an investigation by Southern Water.

West Sussex Highways reported the incident in Marine Crescent shortly after 1pm on Thursday (4 September). The authority confirmed on social media that flooding had occurred due to the blockage. Southern Water was made aware and is expected to investigate the site.

The incident comes during a spell of severe weather in the town. Worthing Pier was closed on Wednesday evening after gale force winds made it unsafe for visitors. The borough council said access would resume only once wind speeds fell below 40 knots, which trigger closure protocols.

Conditions are forecast to improve temporarily at the weekend before further wet and windy weather returns early next week.
