Grafton Car Park Closed for Urgent Safety Checks

Worthing Borough Council has closed the Grafton multi-storey car park on Marine Parade with immediate effect to allow urgent investigations into the condition of the 60-year-old structure.
The closure follows recent inspections that revealed some areas of concrete within the car park were in a poorer state than expected. While regular structural and visual inspections are carried out, the council said public safety was the main reason for the immediate shutdown, based on advice from independent structural engineers. There is no risk to the main structure or nearby facilities such as Hollywood Bowl, Level 1, or neighbouring shops and residences.
Alternative parking remains available in Worthing town centre, including more than 1,000 spaces at other multi-storey sites like Buckingham Road, Civic Quarter, and High Street. The council is also in discussions with local businesses, residents, and partners to mitigate disruption and provide updates. At the same time, work continues to find a redevelopment partner for the Grafton site as part of plans to revitalise the seafront and Montague Street shopping are
