Hundreds join unity march at Worthing Pier to say refugees welcome

Hundreds of people gathered at Worthing Pier on Saturday February 28 for a peaceful unity march organised by Adur and Worthing Stand Up To Racism.
Participants assembled at 1.30pm before setting off through the town centre at 2pm, carrying banners and placards with messages including Refugees Welcome Here, Black Lives Matter and Stop the Far Right.
Organisers said the event aimed to create a visible show of unity and to bring together residents, trade unionists and community groups committed to challenging racism and division. Promotional material encouraged people to march and dance together against racism and to say no to Islamophobia and Antisemitism. Marchers made their way through central Worthing, with some playing instruments and waving flags.
The rally concluded outside AudioActive Worthing in Montague Street, where speeches and live music performances took place. In a post-event message, organisers thanked those who attended and said hundreds had turned out to demonstrate unity and compassion, also distributing information about a national march in London later in March.
