Increased Patrols and Hotspot Policing Aim to Tackle Crime in Worthing Town Centre

Police in Worthing are stepping up patrols and community engagement as part of a national campaign to tackle crime, shoplifting and anti-social behaviour during the summer months.

The “Safer Streets Summer” initiative, supported by the Home Office, is running until the end of September, with increased police presence, quicker response times and focused enforcement in hotspot areas. Sussex Police say this approach is already delivering positive results in Worthing, with sustained reductions in serious violence and anti-social behaviour.

Neighbourhood policing inspector Sharon Sawyer highlighted the success of hotspot policing, supported by additional patrols, night marshals, and activities for young people in Victoria Park. From April to June, more than 6,800 hours of dedicated patrols across Sussex led to over 12,800 public engagements and 75 arrests. Local councillor Rosey Whorlow added that the visible presence and engagement by officers is helping residents and businesses feel more supported and safe.
