Lancing man jailed for raping teenager and stalking woman

A man from Lancing has been jailed for 18 years after being found guilty of raping a teenager and carrying out a sustained campaign of stalking and harassment against a woman.

James Green, 37, of Brighton Road, Lancing, was arrested following reports that he raped a girl in August 2023. Sussex Police said he was later charged in December 2024 and remanded in custody.

At Lewes Crown Court on 24 June 2025, Green was found guilty of multiple offences, including rape of a girl, two counts of sexual communication with a child, stalking involving serious alarm and distress, causing a child to watch a sexual act, criminal damage, theft, inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity, and perverting the course of justice. He was sentenced on 11 September to 18 years - 12 in custody and six on extended licence. He was also given a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order and restraining orders against both victims.

Detective Inspector Harry Doyle of Sussex Police praised the courage of the victims and the work of the investigative team, saying Green had subjected his victims to “the most appalling ordeals.” He encouraged anyone experiencing sexual abuse or stalking to contact police online or via 101, or call 999 in an emergency.
