Life-saving Sussex Police officers recognised at awards ceremony

Sussex Police officers and staff who demonstrated outstanding courage and commitment to protect the public have been honoured at the annual West Sussex Divisional Awards. The ceremony, held at Arundel Castle on 22 September, celebrated individuals whose actions saved lives and supported vulnerable people across the county.

Among those recognised were Sergeant Bradley Simms and PC Emma Boniface, who pulled a distressed woman to safety from a bridge as a train approached, ensuring she received urgent mental health support. Worthing PCSOs Hannah Jenman and Laura Burnett were commended after persuading a man in crisis to step away from the edge of a multi-storey car park. Officers also received praise for preventing a man falling from Worthing Pier and ensuring he received the care he needed.

Further commendations acknowledged exceptional work to support victims, respond to major incidents and secure convictions of dangerous offenders. Recognised officers included investigators who helped secure a 22-year sentence for an offender found guilty of multiple rape and coercive control charges. Senior officers said the awards reflected the professionalism, bravery and compassion shown daily to protect communities across West Sussex.
