Long-serving Hare and Hounds landlord retires after 18 years

Pete Wilson has retired as landlord of The Hare and Hounds in Worthing after 18 years, marking the end of an era for the historic Portland Road pub. Wilson, who took on the venue in 2007, said it felt like the right time to step back following nearly two decades at the helm.

Wilson reflected on his time running the pub, saying he had enjoyed the experience despite various challenges over the years, including the smoking ban and the COVID pandemic. Customers gathered over the weekend to mark his departure, with Wilson expressing gratitude for the support he has received and confirming he will remain briefly to help ensure a smooth handover.

New landlords Justin Williams and Donna Venn Williams have now taken over and say they plan to maintain the pub’s traditional character. They praised the existing staff and reassured regulars that no significant changes are planned before Christmas, encouraging the community to continue supporting the long-established venue.
