Man arrested after rooftop incident in Worthing

A man has been arrested following an incident where he climbed onto the roof of a block of flats in Worthing on Friday evening.

Sussex Police were called to George V Avenue at around 6.10pm amid concerns for the welfare of a 55-year-old man with no fixed address.

Upon arrival, officers engaged with the man, who subsequently climbed onto the rooftop. A safety cordon was established to protect the man, emergency responders and the public. The situation continued for several hours while police remained at the scene.

Shortly before 10pm, the man came down from the roof voluntarily and was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, affray, assaulting an emergency worker, and causing a public nuisance. He remains in police custody.
