Man charged after stabbing on Worthing seafront

A 25 year old man is due to appear in court after a man was stabbed on The Esplanade in Worthing.

Clayton Ellis, of no fixed address, has been charged with wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article in public following the incident on Thursday 5 March. He is scheduled to appear before Worthing Magistrates Court on Monday 9 March.

Police said a local man in his 30s was stabbed at around 3.20pm and remains in hospital in a stable condition. A 31 year old man from Worthing has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been bailed while enquiries continue.

Detective Constable Sophie Chaplain said those involved were known to each other and officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. Police are appealing for anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to contact them quoting Operation Hillside or serial 855 of 5 March.
