Man given indefinite hospital order following death in Tarring

A 23-year-old man has been given an indefinite hospital order following the death of a man in Tarring, Worthing, in September 2025. Taylor Mitten, of Lindum Road, was sentenced at Brighton Crown Court on Thursday 22 October after pleading guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Emergency services were called to an address in Lindum Road on Wednesday 3 September 2025 following reports of a man with serious injuries. Jack Mitten, 25, died at the scene. A police manhunt led to Taylor Mitten’s arrest on 5 September, and he was charged with murder three days later. He subsequently pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Hove Crown Court on 11 September 2026. The court imposed an indefinite hospital order under Sections 37 and 41 of the Mental Health Act.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore, who led the investigation, thanked officers, witnesses and members of the public who assisted with enquiries. He said Sussex Police would continue to provide specialist support to Jack’s family and asked the media and public to respect their privacy following the conclusion of the court proceedings.
