Man given suspended sentence after antisemitic assault in Shoreham

A man has been given a suspended prison sentence after punching a woman in the face during an antisemitic attack in Shoreham.
Worthing Magistrates Court heard that Romilly Hudson assaulted the woman in January 2025 after she approached a market stall linked to the situation in Gaza. Hudson shouted antisemitic abuse before punching her twice, leaving her with bruising to her face, eye and ear.
Hudson, 44, pleaded guilty at Crawley Magistrates Court to racially or religiously aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm and racially or religiously aggravated harassment. He was sentenced on March 16 to nine months imprisonment suspended for 18 months, fined 120 pounds and given a one year restraining order.
The Crown Prosecution Service said the victim had attempted a peaceful discussion but was met with abuse and violence. Prosecutors added that antisemitism and racially motivated attacks have no place in society.
