Montague Gardens officially opens in Worthing after £3.1m transformation

Montague Gardens has officially opened in Worthing following a £3.1m transformation of the former Montague Place, creating a new green space between the town centre and seafront.

The opening ceremony took place on Saturday 5 September, with performances from local musicians and activities for children. The redesigned space includes new trees, shrubs and flowers, a living wall, lawn, seating, paving and a performance area. A play area designed to resemble sea kelp will open once its safety flooring is complete, while a new kiosk is due to be installed shortly.

Worthing Borough Council said the project cost £3.1m, with £2.7m coming from its Community Infrastructure Levy Strategic Fund and £400,000 from pooled business rates agreed with West Sussex County Council. Montague Gardens is the third public realm regeneration project delivered through the current Worthing Growth Deal between the two councils.
