More than £341000 awarded to tackle domestic abuse in West Sussex

More than £341,000 has been awarded to organisations across West Sussex to strengthen support for people affected by domestic abuse.

Fifteen groups have received funding through West Sussex County Council’s Domestic Abuse Small Grants Fund, which is backed by the government. The money will be used to deliver specialist support services, help prevent homelessness, provide early intervention and offer safe accommodation to those experiencing abuse.

The council said the funding would support a range of initiatives, including helping people remain safely in their homes or move into secure housing. Projects will also focus on supporting older residents, LGBTQ plus communities and young people who may be affected by domestic abuse.

Data from the previous year showed that organisations funded through the scheme received more than 1,500 referrals. Of those supported, 88 per cent reported feeling safer, while all individuals either remained in safe accommodation or were helped to access new housing.
