Morrisons withdraws application for new Worthing town centre store

A licensing application for a proposed Morrisons Daily convenience store in Worthing town centre has been withdrawn, with no reason given for the decision.

The application had been submitted to Worthing Borough Council for a site at 29 Montague Street, currently occupied by fashion retailer Peony and listed as under offer. The proposal sought permission to sell alcohol for off-site consumption between 7am and 11pm, seven days a week, with extended opening hours until 3am during certain periods of the year.

Submitted by A N A Supermarkets Ltd, the application included conditions intended to meet licensing requirements. However, it has now been withdrawn. Central Ward councillor Ödül Bozkurt said she was unaware of the reasons behind the move, and Morrisons has been approached for comment.
