New CCTV cameras installed across Worthing town centre and seafront

Worthing Borough Council has upgraded its CCTV network by replacing 16 camera units across the town centre and seafront and installing four new cameras at the High Street multi-storey car park. The authority said the investment is intended to improve the safety and security of residents, businesses and visitors.

The new cameras feature 360-degree recording capabilities, higher-definition footage and equipment designed to better withstand the coastal environment. According to the council, the improved footage will assist Sussex Police with identifying incidents and will act as a deterrent to crime and antisocial behaviour.

The project cost just over £67,000 and was funded through the community infrastructure levy other agencies pot, which uses developer contributions for infrastructure projects in partnership with organisations including the police.

The council also said it plans to introduce a portable CCTV unit for deployment in areas affected by persistent issues such as fly-tipping or antisocial behaviour, while police now have access to footage from all of Worthing’s multi-storey car parks.
