New dog exclusion zones approved in Worthing and Adur

New dog exclusion areas are to be introduced in parts of Worthing and Adur after councillors approved changes to Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs).
Lilac Way play area in Shoreham, and Freesia Way play area and Heene Cemetery in Worthing, will all become dog-free zones.
The decisions were made at Adur District Council’s full council meeting on Thursday, 23 October, and Worthing Borough Council’s full council on Tuesday, 21 October. Councillors also agreed to extend their existing PSPOs for a further three years following a public consultation held in August, which received 849 responses.
More than 80 per cent of respondents supported the creation of new exclusion zones and over 70 per cent backed extending the PSPOs. A proposal to introduce a dog-on-lead restriction at the River Adur Site of Special Scientific Interest was rejected, with 62 per cent opposing it. Breaches of the PSPOs may result in fixed penalty notices of up to £100 or potential prosecution.
