New employment support scheme launched to help Worthing residents into work

A new employment support programme is being introduced in Worthing to help residents overcome barriers to work and secure long term jobs.

The Connect to Work scheme, funded by the Department for Work and Pensions and delivered in partnership with West Sussex County Council, will provide personalised support for people who are economically inactive or long term unemployed. The initiative focuses particularly on those facing challenges such as health conditions or disabilities, offering one to one guidance tailored to individual needs.

Under the programme, employment advisors will work directly with participants to set career goals, develop CVs, prepare for interviews and access suitable job opportunities. Ongoing in work support will also be available to help individuals maintain employment and manage any difficulties that arise.

The scheme is also designed to address wider barriers including low confidence, caring responsibilities and digital exclusion. It will work alongside existing council services such as wellbeing and homelessness prevention teams, forming part of a broader strategy to support residents with the cost of living and promote early intervention rather than crisis response.
