New playground Opens at Worthing’s Homefield Park

The Homefield Park playground has been transformed with an improved layout and new equipment that was chosen by the community.

During 2024, Worthing Borough Council asked residents what play equipment they would like to see included as part of planned improvements to the popular park.

After taking residents’ ideas to contractors, the council launched an online consultation to see which one of the final two designs the community liked best.

Thanks to the participation of over 110 playground users sharing their views in person, and nearly 600 online consultation responses, the council chose a design for the playground that works for the people that most use it.

Play provider Eibe Play was chosen to design an inclusive play area that appeals to children aged between two and 12, with a variety of interactive and disability-friendly equipment.

The playground features 16 different types of play to keep children active and entertained, including climbing areas, swings, balancing equipment, rocking, jumping and sliding play.

The new playground has been relocated away from its former spot, which regularly flooded during heavy rain. The former playground site will be left to settle before plans are developed for a sustainable drainage solution to manage rainwater in the area.

Councillor Vicki Wells, Worthing’s cabinet member for environmental services, said: “The new playground at Homefield Park is a very welcome update to this popular central location. Importantly it is also an opportunity to address the impact of excess water preventing outdoor activity in this fantastic urban park.

“Thanks to everyone who took the time to help design the new playground and ensure that we created a play area that works for you.”
