New Puffin Crossing Planned Near West Worthing Station to Improve Pedestrian Safety

A new puffin crossing is proposed for Tarring Road in Worthing to enhance pedestrian safety and improve access to West Worthing Railway Station.
The location has been identified as a key walking route with high footfall due to nearby shops, businesses and the station itself. The proposal follows a review of pedestrian accident data and local traffic patterns.
West Sussex County Council plans to install the crossing just west of the junction with Valencia Road, as part of its Active Travel Plan. The initiative aims to encourage walking and better access to public transport by improving road safety infrastructure. The crossing will include audible signals, which will be silenced overnight to minimise disruption to nearby residents.
A Traffic Regulation Order has also been drafted to modify parking arrangements on the north side of Tarring Road to accommodate the new crossing. This includes adjustments to an existing one-hour parking bay and double yellow line area in front of the station. The public has until 31 July to submit feedback on the proposal.
