Over 500 Nominations for Worthing Community Awards Announced

More than 500 individuals and groups from Worthing have been nominated for the upcoming Worthing Community Awards.

The awards, which cover 14 different categories including Charity of the Year, Outstanding Contribution to Worthing, and Good Neighbour of the Year, aim to recognise the significant contributions made by residents to the local community.

One of the most poignant awards, the Millie Stoner Award for Courage and Bravery, is dedicated to a 17-year-old girl who passed away from a brain tumour. This award celebrates individuals or groups who demonstrate significant bravery or courage under challenging circumstances. The awards ceremony this year is particularly special as it partners with the Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice in Angmering, in memory of Millie.

The awards initiative, spearheaded by Melanie Peters from Rocket Social Media, was motivated by the loss of Millie, who had previously received a bravery award. Peters commented on the importance of recognising those who make a difference, often without acknowledgment. The nominations for the awards close on May 10, and the ceremony will be held on June .
