Permanent repairs progress at Worthing Pier

Permanent repairs to Worthing Pier are progressing, with new supporting piles being installed to replace those damaged during a storm in October 2024.

Worthing Borough Council said work began during low tide on September 9, with teams using the spring low tide window to drive four piles into the beach. Each foundation will extend 8m into the ground, before columns are installed to support the pier and allow the temporary steel support structure to be removed.

The pier was temporarily closed following the storm damage in 2024 before reopening with temporary supports later that year. The council said routine maintenance will continue alongside the major repairs, which are being carried out during early autumn. The project is forecast to cost up to £550,000, compared with an original estimate of £930,000.
