Petrol prices in Worthing rise by five pence per litre in five days

Petrol prices in Worthing have risen by around five pence per litre in the last five days, according to monitoring carried out by Radio Worthing.
The increase has been recorded across local petrol stations as global oil markets respond to renewed tensions affecting energy supplies.
The price rise follows a surge in global oil prices after several cargo vessels were struck in the Gulf, raising fears over the safety of shipping routes. Brent crude briefly rose above 100 dollars a barrel during trading before settling lower, with markets reacting to concerns about attacks on energy infrastructure and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant proportion of the world’s oil normally passes.
The International Energy Agency has announced plans to release a record 400 million barrels of oil from emergency reserves in an attempt to stabilise markets, but analysts say the measure may only provide temporary relief while regional tensions remain high.
