Plans submitted for 123 homes at Durrington Gasworks

Plans have been submitted to build 123 homes and commercial space on the site of Durrington Gasworks on Martlets Way in Goring. Bellway Homes has lodged the application with Worthing Borough Council for the brownfield site.
The proposals include 2,348 square metres of commercial space, 37 affordable homes, parking, landscaping, public open space and drainage infrastructure. The residential development would include flats, maisonettes and houses, with access from Sword Street, while the commercial unit would front Martlets Way. The site forms part of the Elizabeth Square regeneration area and would become the second phase of the development.
The site is allocated for mixed-use employment-led development under the Worthing Local Plan but has remained undeveloped for more than 20 years. Bellway argues that a greater proportion of housing is needed to make the scheme viable because of market conditions and redevelopment costs. Worthing Borough Council is due to make a decision on the application by October 30.
