Plans submitted for 13 flats above Montague Street building in Worthing

A developer has submitted plans to convert the upper floors of a building in Montague Street, Worthing, into 13 residential flats.

Notice has been given of an application seeking prior approval to change the use of the first and second floors at 105-109 Montague Street from commercial space to self contained residential accommodation. The proposal would create 13 flats above the existing ground floor premises.

The ground floor of the building is currently occupied by CHEC Worthing, an independent hospital run by Community Health and Eyecare Limited which provides services including ophthalmology, gastroenterology, dermatology and ear nose and throat care. A separate planning application has also been submitted on behalf of Danworth Holdings Ltd for new and enlarged window openings on the upper floors and railings at roof level.

Planning documents state the existing building has limited external openings on the first and second floors. The proposed changes aim to improve natural light levels within the planned dwellings and could also provide design improvements and increased daylight for the building even if the change of use application is not approved.
