Rail disruption after vehicle incident at East Preston level crossing

Rail services between Littlehampton and Worthing were disrupted on Sunday evening after a vehicle was involved in an incident at a busy level crossing in East Preston. Southern Rail reported that a road vehicle collided with the level crossing barriers at Roundstone Level Crossing at around 8.30pm, resulting in all lines being blocked.
Train services running through the area were suspended, affecting routes between Brighton and Littlehampton, London Victoria and Littlehampton, and services linking Portsmouth Harbour, Southampton Central and Brighton. Stations including Angmering, Goring-by-Sea and Durrington-by-Sea were temporarily without stopping services, while trains were terminated at either Littlehampton or Worthing.
Passengers were advised to allow extra time for their journeys and were permitted to use their rail tickets on selected Stagecoach bus routes at no additional cost. Trains began running again between Littlehampton and Worthing by around 9.30pm, with Southern Rail confirming shortly after 10.30pm that the disruption had ended and services were no longer affected.
