Red Weather Warning Extended To Cover Worthing

The Met Office has extended its red weather warning for extreme heat to include Worthing and the surrounding area

Temperatures on Worthing Pier reached 32c around midday on Wednesday 24th June, and the weather warning will be in place until Thursday 25th June at 23:59.

The warning highlights the likelihood of widespread impacts on the general population during an exceptional spell of hot and humid weather.

According to the warning, population-wide adverse health effects are likely, with serious illness or danger to life possible. The Met Office also warns of substantial changes to daily routines and working practices, increased pressure on heat-sensitive infrastructure, greater risks around coastal and inland waters, and disruption to road, rail and air travel.

Residents are being advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, keep cool indoors where possible and take precautions when travelling or spending time near water. People are also encouraged to check on vulnerable individuals, prepare for possible service disruptions and follow guidance from emergency services, local authorities and the latest weather forecasts.
