Residents invited to comment on final phase of Debenhams redevelopment in Worthing

Residents are being invited to share their views on proposals for the Marine Gate development which forms the final phase of the redevelopment of the former Debenhams site in Worthing town centre.
The scheme relates to land on the eastern side of Marine Place and would see the former goods and loading area redeveloped into a three storey building providing 27 one bedroom apartments.
Planning permission has already been granted to convert the main Debenhams building into 80 one and two bedroom flats alongside new retail units and a gym with completion expected by winter 2026.
Developers say the proposals aim to complement the Art Deco character of the existing Debenhams building while reducing the overall height compared to previously approved plans. The car free development would include energy efficient homes and a car share scheme with construction expected to begin in 2027 following completion of the wider Debenhams site project.
