Review ordered into planned closure of New Tyne care home in Durrington

A decision to close New Tyne care home in Durrington is set to be reviewed after councillors submitted a successful call-in request, offering renewed hope for families campaigning to keep the service open.

The West Sussex County Council-run home, which supports 13 residents with dementia, had been due to close following an announcement on 29 October. Relatives of former resident Patricia Harlow, who died shortly after the closure plans were revealed, said they were relieved the authority will now reconsider the decision in light of new information gathered during recent engagement.

The Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee will review the original decision, the reasons for the call-in and a petition submitted by UNISON when it meets on 21 November. If the committee upholds the closure, implementation will begin from 24 November; if changes are recommended, the cabinet member will make the final decision.
