RNLI rescues woman from sea after fall from Worthing Pier

A woman was rescued from the sea after falling from Worthing Pier on Saturday afternoon, prompting a major emergency response along the seafront. Emergency services were called just after 1pm on January 3 following reports that the woman had entered the water, with police, ambulances, the coastguard and Shoreham RNLI attending the incident.
The Shoreham RNLI inshore lifeboat crew located the woman after she had drifted west of the pier and brought her safely onto the lifeboat. She was taken ashore where paramedics were waiting and was later transported to hospital for precautionary checks.
An RNLI spokesperson said conditions were calm but cold, with near-freezing air temperatures and low sea temperatures contributing to the risk. Emergency services praised the coordinated response between agencies, which enabled the casualty to be located quickly and transferred to clinical care.
