Safety inspection at Worthing sports ground after dogs fall ill

Worthing Borough Council has announced a safety inspection at Manor Sports Ground following reports that two dogs became unwell after visiting the site.

The dogs are said to have ingested an unknown substance, according to claims shared on social media, raising concerns about potential poisoning in the area.

The park, which is home to Worthing Cricket Club, is managed by the council’s parks team. In a statement, the council expressed concern over the reports and clarified that their maintenance methods prioritise ecological practices, with stronger substances only used when absolutely necessary. They confirmed that no hazardous chemicals had been applied at the ground.

Despite uncertainty about what may have caused the dogs’ illness, the council said a precautionary safety inspection would be carried out. Officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining pesticide-free green spaces and said the parks team would investigate the incident further to ensure public and animal safety.
