Safety work continues at Grafton car park as Worthing redevelopment plans progress

Maintenance work is continuing at Worthing’s Grafton multi-storey car park, which has been closed since May 2025 after inspections found parts of the concrete structure were failing due to age and exposure to the seafront environment.
Worthing Borough Council said contractors are carrying out safety work around areas still used by the public, including walkways and steps serving Hollywood Bowl and the Level One food and drink area, where corroded metal railings and handrails are being removed, replaced and repainted to keep visitors safe.
The council is also progressing plans to redevelop the 440-space site, which is being marketed with the help of property firm CBRE, with proposals under consideration and estimates showing repairs alone would cost around £17 million, while the local plan identifies the land as suitable for around 150 homes alongside commercial and leisure uses.
