Storm Goretti brings yellow wind warning with gusts up to 70mph along Sussex coast

A yellow weather warning for wind has been issued by the Met Office as Storm Goretti is set to bring strong and potentially disruptive conditions to coastal areas of Worthing. The warning comes into force at 3pm on Thursday and remains in place until 8am on Friday, with forecasters warning of dangerous gusts and possible disruption.

The warning covers a wide stretch of the coast including Worthing, Littlehampton, and Brighton, as well as parts of the Chichester district such as the Witterings. Gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour are expected fairly widely, with winds of 60 to 70 miles per hour possible along exposed coasts and higher ground, particularly during Thursday evening.

The Met Office said there is a risk of flying debris, damage to buildings, transport disruption and power cuts, as well as dangerous coastal conditions caused by large waves. Residents in affected areas are advised to secure loose items, check travel plans, prepare for possible power outages and take extra care near the coast as conditions may change quickly.
