Sussex Cancer Fund Supports Sensory Friendly Breast Screening Improvements

Sussex Cancer Fund has supported the West Sussex Breast Screening Service with the introduction of new sensory-friendly resources designed to create a calmer and more comfortable environment for people attending breast screening appointments.
The project includes ear defenders to reduce noise, worry stones to help ease anxiety, the option to listen to music and gentle ambient lighting within mammography rooms. The changes are intended to support people who experience sensory sensitivities, anxiety, autism, learning disabilities or who find medical environments overwhelming.
Breast screening plays an important role in the early detection of breast cancer and the initiative aims to remove barriers that may discourage people from attending appointments. Sussex Cancer Fund said it was proud to fund the equipment needed for the project and thanked both the West Sussex Breast Screening Service and its supporters whose donations continue to fund practical improvements for local people affected by cancer.
