Sussex Police focus on reducing knife crime during Sceptre week

Sussex Police have highlighted their strategy to tackle knife crime as the national Sceptre week initiative begins, emphasising work with retailers, schools and community partners to reduce weapon-related harm across the county.

The force reports a 10.8% year-on-year reduction in knife crime to September but says continued action is essential. During Sceptre week, officers are carrying out test purchases to ensure retailers comply with knife sale laws, increasing patrols in hotspot areas, and conducting knife sweeps and amnesty opportunities. Police leaders stressed that carrying a knife increases the risk of harm and that early engagement with young people remains a priority.

Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne said recent national incidents showed the serious impact of knife crime. She welcomed ongoing partnership work across Sussex and noted recent funding awarded to youth outreach programmes aimed at supporting young people and addressing safety concerns.
