Sussex Police issue festive burglary prevention advice

Sussex Police have issued burglary prevention advice ahead of the festive season, urging residents to take extra steps to protect their homes during the Christmas period.
The force said homes can be more vulnerable to break-ins at this time of year as people travel, receive deliveries and store gifts.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Hutchings said the advice is designed to help reduce the risk of burglary and encouraged people to be security conscious while preparing for Christmas. Recommendations include locking doors and windows, keeping presents out of sight, disposing of packaging carefully, testing burglar alarms and avoiding sharing holiday plans publicly online.
Sussex Police said officers attend every residential burglary in person to gather evidence and support victims, and urged the public to report suspicious behaviour. Residents are also encouraged to use property registration services, consider timer switches to make homes appear occupied and join local Neighbourhood Watch schemes.
