Train disruption in Worthing after power failure closes line

Train services in Worthing were disrupted on Sunday after a power failure forced the closure of a railway line between Barnham and Worthing. National Rail confirmed the issue affected routes towards Brighton and London, with trains delayed, cancelled or revised as engineers responded to the incident.
Passengers travelling through the area were advised to use alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys. The disruption was initially expected to last until early afternoon, with safety guidance issued to passengers, including remaining on board delayed trains and avoiding the tracks due to the risk posed by live third rail equipment.
Southern later confirmed that power had been restored and trains were able to run in both directions, but warned that significant delays would continue into the afternoon. Travellers were advised to allow up to an additional hour for their journeys and consider alternative options where possible while services returned to normal.
