Transformation Begins on Montague Gardens in Worthing Town Centre

Construction has begun on Montague Gardens, a new green space designed to revitalise Worthing town centre and connect it with the seafront.
Local firm Edburton Contractors has been appointed to carry out the phased development, which is expected to take 12 to 15 months to complete in order to minimise disruption.
The £3.1m project, funded primarily through the Community Infrastructure Levy and additional business rates, will see the replacement of existing tarmac with landscaped paving, up to 30 new trees, drought-resistant plants, lawn areas, and sociable seating. Plans also include a prominent Worthing sign, a living wall, a performance deck, improved lighting, and spaces for outdoor cafés and a new hospitality kiosk.
A new play area for younger children will highlight Worthing’s coastal identity and include tactile equipment alongside information about kelp restoration efforts. The project marks the third major public realm upgrade under the Worthing Growth Deal between the borough and county councils, aiming to boost footfall, safety, and community use of central spaces.
