Transformation of Montague Place into Montague Gardens begins in Worthing

Work is progressing on the £3.1 million transformation of Montague Place into Montague Gardens, a green public space designed to link Worthing town centre to the seafront.
The redevelopment, being delivered by local firm Edburton Contractors, is expected to take between 12 and 15 months to complete in phases to minimise disruption.
The redesign will include new paving to replace the existing tarmac, up to 30 trees, drought-resistant planting, and sociable seating areas. A performance and sundeck area, living wall, and a prominent “Worthing” sign will be installed at the northern end. Additional lighting will improve safety, and a play area themed around the town’s seaside heritage and kelp restoration will be created for younger children.
Outdoor hospitality will be supported with dedicated café seating spaces and a new refreshment kiosk. The project is jointly funded through £2.7 million from the Community Infrastructure Levy and £400,000 in pooled business rates from West Sussex County Council. It marks the third regeneration project under the Worthing Growth Deal partnership.
